Fatal Officer-Involved Shootings Down from Last Year
Fatal officer-involved shootings decreased 43.5% compared to this time last year (January - July). There have been 13 fatal officer-involved shootings this year, including four in July. An officer involved-shooting death is defined as “the discharge of a service weapon by an officer that results in the death of a civilian.” Deaths due to tasers, car accidents, or medical incidents are not included. In-custody and jail deaths are also reported by other criminal justice agencies.
