RPD-Dog Attack Information

Riverside Residents

This is to update you on an incident yesterday in the area of the 700 block of Leesley and Blythe Park School.

RPD received a call of a dog attack in which a pit bull attacked a second dog and killed it.

A pit bull somehow got off the leash of his handler and went after another resident's dog. The owner of that dog was attacked and injured when she attempted to separate the dogs. She was treated medically but her dog ended up dying at the Berwyn Vet Hospital.

Additionally, there was an incident on Tuesday, the 16th, that involved a different dog owned by the same resident (as the pit bull in the incident yesterday).

At this time, both dogs are a licensed veterinarian clinic and not in Riverside as they cannot be in the public at this time.

The dog owners are out of the country on vacation and both dogs were the responsibility of a dog handler who was unable to control the dogs. However, Riverside Police Department has taken steps to notify the owners and will be taking steps to deal with the dog owners about the incidents involving their two dogs.
