Reference: Homicide update

The Norton Shores Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred in the 1400 block of East Sherman Blvd in Norton Shores. Officers responded to a shots fired call at the residence and when the officers arrived they found a 23yr old male deceased inside.

The victim is a Cody Bryan Laporte 23 yrs old of Norton Shores.

A witness claimed that two male subjects came to the home at approximately 10:00 p.m. and were let in by the victim. The victim and the two subjects went into a back room and then a struggle was heard followed by three gun shots. The witness fled the home to call for help and saw the two subjects’ exit the home running east bound on Sherman towards US31. A Muskegon County Sheriff K9 was called to the scene to assist with tracking the suspects. It is believed the suspects ran to a vehicle on the east side of US31.

The suspects were described as:

Suspect #1- Black male, approx. 20 yrs old, 6’2”, skinny build, wearing a black hoodie and blue jeans.

Suspect #2- Black male, approx.. 20 yrs old, 5’7”, medium build, wearing a blue t-shirt.

Officers from the Muskegon Police Department, the Michigan State Police and a K9 from the Muskegon County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene. Detectives are interviewing witnesses and the Michigan State Police crime lab was called to processes the crime scene.
