Community

The Hayward Police Department has an important message for you!

In the past thirteen days our community has experienced five homicides and our Police Department experienced an officer involved shooting. The severity and number of violent incidents in such a short period of time is unprecedented in our history. And although alarming, it is important to know, with the exception of two incidents, the remainder of these events are unrelated.

Two of the recent homicides resulted in isolated family disputes. The first involved a brother shooting his own brother; the second involved a wife shooting her husband. The responsible party in both of these incidents was immediately arrested, and the cases have been cleared. The two incidents that occurred last weekend appear to have gang ties, and are possibly related to one another. These two cases are actively being investigated by our homicide and gang units.
The officer involved shooting was related to a stolen vehicle and the attempted murder of a peace officer with a vehicle; both suspects in this incident were immediately apprehended. This case is not gang related, and there are no outstanding suspects. The latest incident involved a stabbing, which appears to be an isolated incident and has no links to any of the other recent activity. This case is also being actively investigated by our homicide unit.

Keeping our community informed remains a top priority of the Police Department. In keeping with that commitment, we wish to ensure our community their police department is vigilantly working on solving the open cases, and remains committed to working in partnership with our citizens to make the City of Hayward a safe and cohesive community.

We also encourage anyone with information relating to any of these homicides to contact the Hayward Police Department’s Investigations Division at (510) 293-7034, or (510) 293-7000.
