Advisory

Heat Advisory in effect in Southern, NH

HOT TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY WILL COMBINE TO
PRODUCE OPPRESSIVE CONDITIONS... MAKING IT DIFFICULT FOR THE BODY TO COOL ITSELF. THOSE ENGAGING IN OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES WILL BE AT RISK OF HEAT EXHAUSTION OR HEAT STROKE...ESPECIALLY OLDER ADULTS...INFANTS...AND PEOPLE WHO CANNOT CARE FOR THEMSELVES.
MULTIPLE DAYS OF HOT AND HUMID CONDITIONS WILL ALLOW THE HEAT AND HUMIDITY TO BUILD UP IN BUILDINGS WITHOUT ACCESS TO AIR CONDITIONING OR ADEQUATE VENTILATION.

A HEAT ADVISORY MEANS THAT A PERIOD OF HOT TEMPERATURES IS EXPECTED. THE COMBINATION OF HOT TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY WILL COMBINE TO CREATE A SITUATION IN WHICH HEAT ILLNESSES ARE
POSSIBLE. DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS...STAY IN AN AIR-CONDITIONED ROOM...STAY OUT OF THE SUN...AND CHECK UP ON RELATIVES AND NEIGHBORS... ESPECIALLY OLDER ADULTS WHO LIVE ALONE TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE ABLE TO STAY COOL.

PEOPLE WHO WORK OR EXERCISE OUTSIDE OR IN HOT ENVIRONMENTS AND CHILDREN ENGAGING IN OUTDOOR SPORTS SHOULD TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS. WHEN POSSIBLE...RESCHEDULE STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES TO
EARLY MORNING. KNOW THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT STROKE. WEAR LIGHT WEIGHT AND LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING WHEN POSSIBLE AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER.

TO REDUCE RISK DURING OUTDOOR WORK...THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS SCHEDULING FREQUENT REST AND
WATER BREAKS IN SHADED OR AIR CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENTS. ANYONE OVERCOME BY HEAT SHOULD BE MOVED TO A COOL AND SHADED LOCATION.
HEAT STROKE IS AN EMERGENCY...CALL 9 1 1.
