Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide investigators are following up on the death of an inmate who became sick while housed at the East Los Angeles Station jail at 5019 Third Street, Los Angeles.  The inmate, a 31 year-old male Hispanic, was transported to a local hospital on the morning of Saturday, August 6, 2016, where he died eight hours later.

The inmate had been arrested on Thursday, August 4, 2016, for the possession of marijuana and resisting arrest. 

The exact cause of death is unknown at this time and will be determined by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner at a later date. 

There is no further information available at this time.
