On July 26th, 2016 the Harris County Sheriff’s Office High Tech Crime Unit identified an IP address of a person who was making images of child sexual assault available to share across the internet.

Upon investigating the case it was learned that the person associated to the IP address was a Harris County Employee with the Office of Court Management as an IT administrator over criminal data records.

A search warrant was served on the suspect’s residence on August 3, 2016 and images of child sexual assault were recovered from the suspect’s computer.

The suspect was located at his place of employment and he provided a confession during an interview conducted by investigators with the High Tech Crime Unit.

The suspect, Steven Stones, was relieved of work and taken into custody. He was then transported to the Harris County Jail and processed for the below listed charges:

Sheriff Ron Hickman implemented the HCSO High Tech Crime Unit in June of 2015; the unit consists of a Manager, 2 sergeants, 3 deputy investigators and a civilian analyst.

A deputy investigator is also assigned to the Regional Computer Forensics’ Lab.
