Detectives learned that, at approximately 9:40AM, uniformed Redondo Beach SWAT Officers, assigned to Directed Enforcement, located a suspect wanted in connection to a previous Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Redondo Beach Police Officer and had a ‘No Bail’ warrant. The suspect was driving a black SUV in the parking lot of a hotel in the 15000 block of Hawthorne Boulevard, Lawndale.

The suspect was struck at least once in the upper torso.  The suspect was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in ‘Serious’ condition.

The officer that was involved in the collision received non-life threatening injuries. He was transported to a local hospital and is expected to be released later today.

Detectives are still processing the scene and conducting a thorough search of the suspect’s vehicle to determine if he was armed.
