Parks Bureau Deputies Acknowledged for Service to Roy Campanella Park in Compton

On Saturday, July 30, 2016, deputies from Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Parks Bureau, were recognized by the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation for their service to Roy Campanella Park, 14812 Stanford Avenue, Compton.  Park Director Craig Newman, who presented Deputy Carol Malveaux with the Plaque, said that when he began working at the Park, there were no sports programs there.  With the help of community volunteers, they were able to create the Campanella Little League Program.  There were some problems initially with a local element that made the children and their parents feel unsafe.  He contacted Deputy Malveaux from Parks Bureau’s South Zone and told her of their concerns.  Deputy Malveaux passed on the information to the units in the area who increased their patrols of the park, and now, the children and their families feel safe coming to the park to practice and play.  With the Department of Parks and Recreation running the program, support of the community volunteers and assistance from Parks Bureau, the League is thriving.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Parks Bureau is dedicated to providing a safe and drug free environment at all Los Angeles County Parks.
