Office of Chief Brent Smith

Ceres, CA - On July 31, 2016, at 0022 hours, Officers responded to the 3200 block of 6th street for a report of a person shot. Upon the officer’s arrival, they saw people running from the home. Officers located an 18 year old Hispanic man bleeding from the neck area. Officers gave the injured man first aid treatment until the ambulance arrived. The 18 year old man was transported to a local hospital where he was considered in critical condition.

Investigators discovered the party was advertised through social media. They estimated 200 people at the party. There was a confrontation between two groups in the backyard. Witness statements and evidence suggest there was an exchange of gun fire and multiple shots were fired from two separate parties. The victim was struck once in the chest and once in the neck with an unknown caliber round. It is unknown if the victim was involved in the confrontation. There are early indications this was gang related but the motive has not been confirmed. After the shots were fired, guests ran from the party.

This is an ongoing investigation. Ceres Police Detectives are encouraging anyone with information of the responsible involved in this shooting to come forward and contact either Detective Bryan Ferreira at (209) 538-5616 or the Stanislaus Area Crime Stoppers. People wishing to remain anonymous can leave a message on the tip line at (209) 538-5740.
