#LASD - Human Trafficking Task Force is Continuing their Efforts to Protect your Children from Social Media Abduction

Los Angeles Regional Human Trafficking Task Force has been hard at work since inception. They are continuing their efforts to protect children and young adults from predators lurking on various social media sites and the Internet.

The Task Force has conducted several covert operations during this past week throughout Los Angeles County targeting sex traffickers, intent and focused on luring young victims into the commercial sex industry.

Arrests this past week by task force detectives included:

Dorian Foster male Black 27 years-old and resident of Los Angeles

Brandon Monroe male Black 20 years-old and resident of Long Beach

David Mortley male Black 30 years-old and resident of Gardena.

Each defendant was subsequently charged by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office with the felony charge of Pandering.  Bail was set at $50,000 for each defendant.

Young adults and children are reminded that social media and Internet sites contain exploiters engaged in illicit and dangerous activities, and are popular among predators recruiting for commercial sex workers.  Parents are reminded to be especially vigilant in monitoring their children’s social media practices.

Earlier in 2016, Sheriff Jim McDonnell penned an open letter to all parents within Los Angeles County to address this issue.
Sheriff Jim McDonnell stated "Our youth need public figures and parents to work together and provide information to our families about the high-risk consequences of inappropriate photo sharing." The Los Angeles County Sheriff Department’s Human Trafficking Bureau houses the LA Regional Human Trafficking Task Force, the nation’s largest co-located human trafficking task force in the nation.  The Task Force is a collaboration of federal, state, county and local law enforcement, social service agency and non-government and community-based organizations investigating and serving the needs of commercially exploited adults and minors victimized for the purpose of sex and labor.

The LA Regional Human Trafficking Task Force brings together systems and disciplines to address the victim’s needs through a victim centered, trauma informed approach.  The task force employs a regionalized strategy that crosses jurisdictional boundaries to identify and rescue victims while aggressively pursuing traffickers and buyers.
