IMPORTANT MESSAGE

The Sand Fire started just one week ago today at approximately 2 pm in the afternoon. This destructive, fast moving fire should serve as a reminder about the severe fire behavior we are experiencing in the State and in the Southern Californian area.

Recently, we experienced the San Gabriel Fire in Duarte/Azusa which burned 5000 acres and threatened homes; the Sage Fire in Stevenson Ranch which burned 1100 acres and threatened homes; and now the Sand Fire which charred over 38,000 acres burning homes and presumably causing one death (details still under investigation).

The Los Angeles County Fire Department continues to URGE residents to read and implement the READY! SET! GO! guide. This guide will help protect you and your family AND will tell you what steps to take so that your home is "hardened" giving firefighters the best opportunity to defend your home as the fire approaches.

LACoFD firefighters, along with ANF, Cal Fire, and numerous agencies throughout the State battled flames surrounding homes saving thousands of homes during the Sand Fire.

The most dangerous fire behavior is yet to be seen when the fall months approach and we experience "Santa-Ana Winds." With a five-year drought, severely dry brush and vegetation, strong winds will move fire with extreme speed.
