Prohibited Firearms Arrest
On July 26, 2016, detectives from the Simi Valley Police Department worked in conjunction with California Department of Justice, Bureau of Firearms Agents, to investigate armed prohibited possessor cases. Prohibited possessors are individuals who for specific legal reasons, including certain criminal convictions, being named parties in restraining orders and specific mental health conditions, may not possess firearms.
During this operation fifteen locations within the city of Simi Valley were visited. Four individuals were contacted. One of these individuals was found to be in possession of various prohibited items including: (2) handguns, (1) illegal shotgun, (3) assault rifles, (4) other rifles, several high capacity magazines and approximately 1200 rounds of miscellaneous caliber ammunition. These items were confiscated and are now in the custody of the California Department of Justice.
Pursuant to the recovery of these items Simi Valley resident Michael Fitzpatrick (64 years of age) was arrested and booked in to the Ventura County Jail for possessing prohibited weapons, possession of assault weapons and possession of ammunition by a prohibited person.
The Simi Valley Police Department will continue to work with State Officials in an effort to remove firearms from the hands of those who are prohibited from possessing them. Anyone with information regarding illegal weapons is urged to contact the Simi Valley Police Department at (805)-583-6950.
