Southern California boasts an array of iconic destinations for all types of travel. Nevertheless, with these various landscapes, it is important to remember that emergencies can suddenly erupt amidst the sunshine and palm trees.
Southern California is infamous for earthquakes, mudslides, and wildfires. When these incidents occur, many Angelinos are faced with road closures, evacuations, and the potential for loss or damage of property.
Inclement weather is not something to take lightly. The CHP wants to remind you to prepare for the unexpected. Here are some helpful tips to assist in alleviating some of the hurdles that come with emergency preparedness:
- Know the possible hazards in your area- Do you have dry brush around your home? Do you live near an active fault line?
- Develop an emergency plan - Monitor public safety announcements, know your evacuation routes, and have a rendezvous point.
- Gather an emergency essentials kit- Make sure you include medication, water, blankets, phone chargers, important documents, etc.
It is imperative that you educate yourself on what to do before, during, and after a major incident. These types of situations can be extremely stressful and chaotic. Therefore, we encourage you to not wait until the last minute to begin establishing a plan and preparing yourself.
