#LASD Compton DUI Suspect Re-Arrested after Add'l Evidence Collected, Victim Died of Injuries from May 30, 2016 Collision

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Compton Station traffic detectives are investigating a traffic collision that killed a pedestrian, which occurred on Monday, May 30, 2016, at approximately 6:27 p.m.

Compton Station deputies responded to a traffic collision call on Wilmington Avenue approaching Greenleaf Boulevard, in the City of Compton. Upon arrival, they learned that a vehicle was traveling southbound on Wilmington Avenue approaching Greenleaf Boulevard in the city of Compton, when the driver became involved in a traffic collision.  As a result of the collision, a pedestrian was struck. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

At the time of the collision, the driver was determined to be impaired and arrested by deputy personnel for Driving Under the Influence (DUI).

Detectives presented the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing considerations on June 1, 2016, however, it was rejected pending further investigation.  As a result, the driver was released.

Unfortunately, the pedestrian, Marvin Jones, a 42 year-old male Black, had remained in the hospital since the incident. On July 7, 2016, sadly the victim, Mr. Jones, succumbed to his injuries.

Detectives continued to gather additional evidence regarding the incident and presented the newly obtained evidence in the case to the District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration on July 18, 2016.  As a result, the District Attorney’s Office elected to file the case and a warrant was issued for the arrest of the driver.

Compton Station traffic detectives located and arrested the driver, Reginald Ross, a 58 year-old male Black, and resident of Long Beach, on July 20, 2016. The suspect was booked at Century Regional Detention Center for Vehicular Manslaughter and DUI.  He is currently being held in lieu of $250,000 bail.
