The City of Oxford has an important message for you to help stay healthy during the holiday season.

The H1N1 and the seasonal flu are still in full swing. To stay healthy during the holiday season here are some tips:

The flu is mainly spread from person-to-person. With the holiday season upon us, millions of people will be out in shopping in malls, at grocery stores, and enjoying holiday parties. So to avoid coming down with the flu and ruining your holiday you need to take some precautionary measures.

Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it. If you don’t have a tissue, cough into your sleeve.

Wash your hands often with soap and water. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.

Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Germs spread that way.

Stock over-the-counter medications, alcohol–based cleaner, tissues, and plenty of fluids while you are well to avoid the need for a trip to the pharmacy in the event you get sick.

Most importantly, stay home if you get sick and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
