#LASD Homicide, 2015 San Dimas Quizno Murder Suspect in Custody

On Tuesday, June 02, 2015 at 12:07 pm, a suspect entered the Quizno’s Sandwich Shop in San Dimas and used a handgun to rob the owner, 62 year-old Victim Pravin Patel.  When the suspect ran outside, the victim followed him and tried to detain the suspect. 

During that altercation, the suspect shot the victim and fled the scene.  The victim was transported to a local hospital where he later died. 

The suspect’s identity was unknown, a composite sketch of the suspect was circulated, and $20,000 reward was offered.  

On Tuesday July 12, 2016, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office investigated the armed robbery of an armored car in the town of Windsor.  During the robbery one of the two suspects shot the armored car driver.  The suspects then fled the location in a vehicle. 

Sonoma County deputies went in pursuit of the suspects.  During the pursuit, the suspects shot at the deputies.  At the end of the pursuit, the suspects were taken into custody. 

During subsequent follow-up investigation,Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department detectives learned the suspects, 23 year-old Ivan Morales and 24 year-old Sergey Gutsu, were involved in other crimes throughout the state. 

Suspect Gutsu was linked to the robbery and murder at the Quizno’s Sandwich shop in San Dimas.  Detectives for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department traveled to Santa Rosa, Ca. on July 13, 2016, and interviewed the suspect.  During their interview, the suspect admitted to being involved in the murder of Victim Patel.

The suspects, Sergey Gutsu and Ivan Morales, have been arraigned in Sonoma County on charges of attempted murder, armed robbery, and conspiracy.  They remain in custody pending further court proceedings. 

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives are continuing their investigation into Suspect Gutsu’s involvement in the murder of Victim Patel.
