SPPD Announces Results of DUI Court Sting Operation

The San Pablo Police Department Announces

Results of DUI Court Sting Operation

In compliance with a grant awarded by the California Office of Traffic Safety, the San Pablo Police Department frequently conducts special enforcement operations and public awareness efforts to prevent traffic related deaths and injuries.  The funding is used as part of the City’s ongoing commitment to keep our roadways safe and to improve the quality of life through both enforcement and education.

On 06-22-2016, between the hours of 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM, officers from the San Pablo Police Department conducted an undercover “Court Sting” Operation at the Richmond Superior Court.  Officers focused their attention on drivers suspected of operating a vehicle while unlicensed or while driving privileges were suspended/revoked.

Police officers identified offenders who had been ordered by a judge not to drive and/or who had been served with a license suspension. Three offenders were to be arraigned that were confirmed to have driver’s license suspensions for DUI related charges. Of the three offenders, one appeared in court. The offender was remanded into custody and was not free to leave court.

Those who chose to drive with a suspended license for DUI could face additional jail time, longer driver’s license suspensions, along with other financial consequences including attorney fees, court costs, lost time at work, and the potential loss of job or job prospects.

DUI Court Sting stakeout operations, along with regularly scheduled high visibility DUI enforcement, serve as a proven deterrent with the goal of keeping impaired drivers from the road and heightening awareness among the public of the dangers of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
