2nd UPDATE #LASD Homicide Detectives Locate Potential Human Remains in Angeles National Forest 
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Homicide detectives are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the discovery of potential human remains in the Angeles National Forest.
Homicide detectives report today at approximately 1:00 P. M., on Highway 39, San Gabriel Mountain Road, Mile Marker 20.21, Angeles National Forest, members of the San Dimas and Sierra Madre Search and Rescue teams along with the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner Recovery team recovered two sets of human remains.
The identification and gender of the remains are unknown as they were burned beyond recognition.
Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner personnel indicate it may take approximately 4 weeks to accurately identify the remains.
The investigation is ongoing and there is no additional information.

UPDATED PRESS RELEASE:
Members of the San Dimas Mountain Rescue Team located what appears to be the human remains of two people. The remains were significantly impacted by the effects of the fire.
Sheriff’s Department personnel will remain on scene throughout the night.
Homicide detectives, along with the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner, will return to the scene at first light, to continue their investigation and recover the remains.

ORIGINAL PRESS RELEASE IS AS FOLLOWS:
Personnel from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department’s San Dimas Station received a call for service at approximately 2:22 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2016, regarding an unconfirmed report of the discovery of possible human remains near the area of San Gabriel Canyon Road in the Angeles National Forest.
A fire crew from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, working in the area, was flagged down by a person who indicated they had located human remains. Officials from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the indicated area. The Los Angeles County Fire Department conducted an initial search from the air, but did not locate any signs of remains in the steep and rough terrain.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau has responded to the scene and is continuing the investigation. No confirmation of the existence of any remains, human or otherwise, has been made by any law enforcement or fire department officials at this point.
