Press Release

Details: On Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at 9:30 PM, CPD officers responded to a home in the 2000 block of Vandortsen Avenue regarding the shooting of an animal. Officers had spoken with a resident who had driven to the PD to report a family member admitted to shooting and killing his dog. The eight year old Border Collie dog was found dead inside of a garbage can when the owner returned home that evening. The owner asked Sheena Martin, who is also a resident of the home, if she knew what had happened to his dog and Martin admitted to shooting the dog with a rifle. The owner stated Martin told him she shot his dog because it “Needed to go.” The owner stated Martin had been complaining to him about the dog bothering her recently. Martin used a .22 rifle belonging to the owner of the dog. Officers discovered evidence in the backyard of the home where Martin had shot and killed the dog. Martin was arrested at the residence and charged with animal cruelty, as well as illegally discharging a firearm. Martin was transported and booked into the Kings County Jail for the above listed charges. Her bail was set at $50,000.00.
