Arrest Made in Methamphetamine Investigation

Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook announces that a Crimestoppers tip has led to the arrest of a man accused of making methamphetamine in a neighborhood near Covenant Road.

Johnny Dale Callihan (DOB: 12-22-1975) is charged with Manufacturing Methamphetamine and Simple Possession of Marijuana. Two bench warrants for Public Disorderly Conduct and Resisting Arrest were also served on Callihan.

Metro Region and Organized Crime and Narcotics (OCN) officers responded to a shed-like area that was converted in to an apartment at 2711 Dubard Street around 2:00 o’clock this morning after receiving a Crimestoppers tip about narcotics activity.

During a lawful search, the initial responding officer detected a strong odor of chemicals and experienced brief breathing difficulty. Officers uncovered materials consistent with manufacturing methamphetamine along with a small amount of marijuana.

The Columbia Fire Department personnel also responded to the scene and determined that the air quality was hazardous. There were no reports of physical injuries.

In addition, Officers seized two mopeds that were reported stolen from Columbia and Irmo. That portion of the case remains under investigation.
