#LASD Susp Arrested after Ramming Stolen Car into Deputy’s Patrol Veh, 100 Blk N Sycamore Ave, Los Angeles @WHDLASD
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department West Hollywood Station detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding an assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer that left one deputy injured. The incident occurred during a vehicle pursuit on Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at approximately 6:22 PM.
Deputies from the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station attempted to pull over a stolen vehicle in the area of Clinton Street and Mansfield Avenue, Los Angeles. The vehicle stopped for approximately 30-40 seconds before fleeing west on Clinton Street. Deputies initiated a pursuit of the suspect vehicle who had now turned south on Orange Avenue. A deputy in the area, on an unrelated call for service, was exiting her patrol vehicle when the suspect looked in her direction, accelerated, and deliberately rammed her driver’s side door with his vehicle. The collision caused the deputy’s leg to be pinned. Deputies stopped to render aid to the injured deputy and lost sight of the suspect vehicle. The pursuit was then immediately terminated.
The suspect vehicle was located in the 100 block of North Sycamore Avenue, Los Angeles, where deputies immediately set up a containment. An LASD canine unit subsequently found the suspect hiding underneath a residence on Sycamore Avenue.
The deputy was medically treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The suspect sustained minor injuries during the incident. He was transported to a local hospital where he was medically treated and returned to the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station for booking.
The suspect was identified as Melvin Williams, a 24 year-old male Black adult. Williams is being charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Peace Officer, Grand Theft Auto, and Felony Evading. His bail is set in lieu of $50,000.
