Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Homocide detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding an attempt murder of Lakewood Station deputies that left two deputies injured. The incident occurred in the 16600 block of Lisa Avenue, Bellflower, on Thursday, June 23, 2016, at approximately 10:49 P.M.

Detectives have learned that deputes were conducting a DUI checkpoint on Lakewood Boulevard when they attempted to conduct a vehicle code enforcement stop. The vehicle was followed by a motorcycle deputy, at which time the vehicle came to a stop on the 16600 block of Lisa Avenue. The driver stepped out of the vehicle, produced a firearm, and fired several rounds at the deputy striking him multiple times. The deputy returned fire and the suspect fled on foot.

The suspect continued his assault, by firing several rounds at the responding deputies, striking one of them with gunfire.

The suspect once again fled on foot and fired at a third group of deputies. The deputies returned fire, but the suspect fled the area in an unknown direction and out of view. It is unknown if the suspect was struck by the deputy gunfire.

The area was immediately contained and a search of the area is being conducted at this time. Deputies from the Special Enforcement Bureau are actively searching for the outstanding suspect.

Both deputies were transported to a local hospital where they are being prepared to undergo surgery. Their condition is fair at this time.

The suspect is considered armed and dangerous. The Sheriff's Department is asking the public to stay away from the area until it is safe.
