Joint Press release

A local news station recently reported information that relies upon an “unnamed police source” close to the investigation of the Jessica Heeringa abduction.
The multi-jurisdictional task force and each agency investigating this crime have authorized only the Muskegon County Prosecutor’s Office and/or Norton Shores Chief Jon Gale to release information concerning this investigation. Any information in law enforcement’s possession that can be made public, will continue to be made public. Any information submitted by investigating agencies to the courts will be accessible as determined by the courts.
However, the public is advised that any information obtained from other police sources, named or unnamed, are not authorized to speak on behalf of law enforcement and should not be relied upon. Additionally, the publication of unauthorized information has the potential to obstruct or impede the investigation. Our office, law enforcement and Jessica Heeringa’s family urge the media to not rely upon unauthorized police sources.
