Residential Burglar in Custody
Residential Burglar in Custody
Menlo Park Police Department Case #16-1935
On June 23, 2016 at approximately 2:15 PM, the Menlo Park Police Department Narcotics Enforcement Team (NET) observed a suspicious vehicle that appeared to be casing residences to burglarize. A marked MPPD patrol car attempted to contact the occupied vehicle while it was parked.
As the uniformed officer approached the driver side of the suspect vehicle, it sped away. As the vehicle sped off, it collided with a parked vehicle and an undercover MPPD vehicle, causing damage. The uniformed officer went back to his patrol vehicle and began to pursue the suspect vehicle through several residential streets until the vehicle stopped and the driver fled on foot.
Two suspects were observed by police walking out of a driveway. When the suspects observed the police, a foot pursuit ensued. One suspect dropped two computers and a screwdriver during the chase. He was eventually apprehended and found to be on CDC Parole, for burglary. He was arrested and later booked into the San Mateo County Jail.
The second suspect was not apprehended and is currently outstanding. After the suspect's arrest, police discovered the computers in his possession were property stolen from a residence that was burglarized a short distance from where he was taken into custody.
The suspect in custody was identified as Carlos YepezSaavedra (21) of East Palo Alto. YepezSaavedra was later booked into the San Mateo County Jail on residential burglary, resisting arrest, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools, evading police in a vehicle with disregard for safety, and for violation of parole.
