Green Bay Police Responded to Two Dogs that Attacked and Injured a Toddler and His Mother

At 12:09 PM on Monday 06/20/2016, the Green Bay Police Department responded to reports of two dogs that mauled a mother and her 15 month old child in the 1100 block of Reber Street. A GBFD Rescue Squad was also dispatched as callers indicated the victims were injured.

While officers were on their way to the call, they were notified by dispatch that neighbors were attempting to separate the dogs from the two victims and trying to contain them. When officers arrived, the two male pit bulls had been separated from the victims, and neighbors had pinned one of the dogs down. The other dog was pacing around in the front yard of the house it originated from. Officers contained the dog on a side porch until GBPD Humane Officer Hensen arrived on scene. Both dogs were immediately taken into custody by the humane officer and transported to a veterinarian so the dogs do not present any further danger to the public.

The victims were transported by rescue squad to a local hospital due to the nature of their injuries. Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening. The dogs were not known to the victims and did not live with them. This was an instance of an unprovoked dog attack that took place outside of the dogs’ yard. No additional information will be released on the victims or the nature of their injuries.

The dogs were signed over by the animal owner to the police so they could be euthanized and given comprehensive rabies testing. The investigation into this incident is ongoing so no additional information can be released at this time.
