Police Offer Reminder to Delivery Truck Drivers

The Berkeley Police Department has received an increase in complaints regarding delivery trucks and other large vehicles not adhering to designated truck routes (over 6,000 pounds).  The City of Berkeley and the Berkeley Police Department would like to remind everyone, especially businesses and delivery companies, to comply with posted signs regarding delivery routes, weight limits and restricted roadways.

Attached is a web link and a PDF with more specific information.  The Berkeley Police Department will continue to enforce the traffic laws and wants to ensure drivers are educated about the mandates.  We have also noted that numerous drivers in large vehicles we have contacted were following directions based their GPS route guidance, instead of following the posted regulatory signs. We encourage drivers, businesses and others who accept deliveries by truck to print and share the map linked below.

In addition to safety concerns related to oversize vehicles on prohibited roadways, their ongoing use can damage roadways from excessive wear and tear.   Significant fines and penalties can be levied for violators.  Primary truck routes in Berkeley are listed below.

Primary east-west routes:

  • Gilman Street
  • University Avenue

Primary north-south routes:

  • San Pablo Avenue
  • Shattuck Avenue

Any questions can be directed to the Berkeley Police Traffic Bureau at (510) 981-5980.
