Reference: Jeffrey Willis phone conversation

The Norton Shores Police Department in response to a recently released telephone conversation between Jeffrey Willis and Norton Shores Officer Shawn Stefanich is providing further details regarding the jail recorded phone call.
The media has already reported that Officer Stefanich has had a friendship with Jeffrey Willis since high school. This friendship did extend to the day Jeffrey Willis was arrested by the Muskegon County Sheriff’s office on May 17. On that day Jeffrey Willis called and left a message for Ofc. Stefanich to call him after multiple failed attempts by Willis to contact his own wife. Ofc. Stefanich called Willis back at the jail on the day of his arrest not knowing that Willis was involved with the Attempt Abduction or the Bletsch homicide. Ofc. Stefanich assumed Willis was arrested for a domestic situation. After the phone conversation occurred, Ofc. Stefanich was made aware that Willis was being charged with the Attempted Abduction and has since learned that Mr. Willis is charged with Rebecca Bletsch’s murder and has cut off all contact with him. As with the rest of the public, Officer Stefanich is deeply disturbed about these allegations.
