Oyster Creek TESTING sirens today at 10am.
Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station in Forked River will conduct a semi-annual, full volume test of its emergency warning sirens tomorrow, according to a power plant release.
The sirens will blare for three minutes beginning at 10 a.m.
The purpose of the test is to notify residents to tune to an Emergency Alert System (EAS) radio or a television station in case of an emergency.
in 2013, Exelon Generation, the plant's operator, replaced all 42 emergency warning sirens within a 10-mile radius around the facility with new, state-of-the-art units featuring battery back-up.
The oldest nuclear power plant in New Jersey, it produces 636 net megawatts of electricity at full power, supplying 600,000 typical homes, or all in Monmouth and Ocean counties, according to Exelon Generation
