LASD Deputies Evacuate Calabasas residents & pets as LACoFD fights fire, #OldFire Calabasas
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has deployed at least 35 deputies from several sheriff’s stations to assist the affected residents of the city of Calabasas safely evacuate their homes.
Three thousand homes are threatened and approximately 5000 residents have been evacuated. The majority of the evacuations were mandatory as others voluntarily evacuated to safety.
The fire originated at approximately 4:15 p.m. when Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a pickup truck that had struck a power pole in the 2300 block of Mulholland Highway in the city of Calabasas. Witnesses reported that the truck was traveling at a high rate of speed before colliding into a power pole, causing the pole to fall and a transformer to explode, thus igniting the Calabasas fire.
Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel are actively engaged in extinguishing the fire, as California Highway Patrol continues to assist residents in safely navigating through the neighboring roads.
Affected residents are asked to seek shelter at Agoura High School (28585 West Driver Avenue, Agoura Hills). Residents can board their horses and large animals at Pierce College (6201 Winnetka Avenue, Woodland Hills). Small pets and animals can board at Agoura Animal Care Center (29525 Agoura Road, Agoura Hills).
