Tragic Collision severely injures 4th Grader walking home from Madera Elementary School. Incident Update.

On May 26, 2016 at 2:19 PM, Simi Valley Police Traffic Unit emergency personnel responded to an injury collision at Royal Avenue west of Sinaloa Road.
Upon arrival, Officers and medical personnel rendered first aid to a 4th grade student who attends Madera Elementary School. That student was struck by a vehicle and received major head injuries. He was immediately transported to Los Robles Hospital where he is in critical condition as of the writing of the release.
The cause of the collision surrounds a bit of horseplay along the sidewalk involving a game of pushing. The victim in this case fell into the roadway in front of an oncoming vehicle that was driving at a slow speed. The driver did everything possible to avoid the collision, but was unable to do so based upon the way the event unfolded.
The roadway is still closed at this time while Collision Investigators laser scan the roadway to properly document the physical evidence that is present, as well as inspect the involved vehicle. The roadway should be open before 6:00 PM.
The Police Department and the Simi Valley Unified School District are working closely with each other to ensure accurate information is provided to everyone surrounding the circumstances of this tragic incident.
