***FATALITY HIT & RUN PRESS RELEASE***

On 5/23/2016 at approximately 12:09 a.m., the Northern Ellis Emergency Dispatch Center received a 911 call reporting a possible hit-and-run traffic collision in the 200 block of E. Ovilla Road (FM 664). The Red Oak Police Department was dispatched to the scene of the collision at that time. The collision involved a pedestrian and a truck. At the time of the collision, the pedestrian appears to be walking eastbound in the 200 block of E. Ovilla road. The driver of the involved vehicle fled the area without stopping to render aid to the injured party. The victim sustained life-threatening injuries during the collision and was transported to Baylor Hospital in Waxahachie for medical treatment. The victim succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Next of kin was notified and the pedestrian was identified as forty seven year old McClelland, Betsy Sue of Red Oak.

Detectives have retrieved surveillance videos from several businesses in the area. We are showing one of the videos which show a pickup truck that allegedly collided with the victim and pulled into the parking lot of a business. The suspect vehicle then fled the scene and turns right onto Sunflower out of the parking lot. The suspect vehicle appears in the top right hand corner of the surveillance video. The circumstances of the collision are still under investigation. Anyone with information regarding this collision or suspect vehicle is asked to contact Detective Greg Dansby at [email protected] or (469) 218-7703 or Sgt. Richard Boone at (469) 218-7710.
