*2nd Update* #LASD Dets Seeking Public’s Help Locating Attempt Murder Susp, West Covina PD Offcr Involved Shooting
Homicide detectives are seeking the public’s help in locating Attempt Murder on a Peace Officer Suspect Jose Luis Chavez. Suspect Jose Chavez is wanted for the attempt murder of an on-duty West Covina Police Officer. On Friday, May 20, 2016 at approximately 11:18 p.m., Suspect Jose Chavez fired numerous rounds at the officer as the officer attempted to detain him.
The officer sustained a gunshot wound to the upper torso. He was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in stable condition and is expected to survive.
Suspect Jose Chavez is described as a male Hispanic, 47 years old, approximately six feet one inch tall, and 225 pounds. He has a left eyebrow piercing (see attached bulletin and photograph).
Suspect Jose Chavez and the weapon have not been located. He should be considered armed and dangerous. Suspect Jose Chavez is known to frequent the cities of West Covina, Baldwin Park and Pomona.
The investigation is on-going, and there is no additional information at this time.

FIRST UPDATE IS AS FOLLOWS:
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau detectives are assisting West Covina Police Department with the investigation of an officer-involved shooting. The incident occurred at North Yaleton Avenue, just north of Badillo Street, West Covina, on Friday, May 20, 2016 at approximately 11:18p.m.
When homicide detectives arrived, they learned that the West Covina officer contacted a male Hispanic adult on a bike. The contact lead to a gun fight between the officer and the suspect. At that time, the officer sustained a gunshot wound to the upper torso.
The male Hispanic adult suspect is outstanding at this time. He is believed to be armed, and several law enforcement personnel are currently searching the area in an attempt to locate him. It is unknown at this time if the suspect was struck by gunfire.
The officer was transported to a hospital to be treated for his injuries. He is expected to survive.
There is no further information at this time.

NARRATIVE:
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide detectives are responding to the area of North Yaleton Avenue north of Badillo Street, West Covina, to assist the West Covina Police Department investigate the circumstances surrounding an officer-involved shooting that left an officer injured. The incident occurred at approximately 11:18 PM on Friday, May 20, 2016.
The West Covina police officer was struck by the suspect’s gunfire, and was transported to a local hospital. The officer is expected to survive his injuries.
An active search for the suspect is currently being conducted. It is unknown if the suspect was struck by the officer’s gunfire.
The suspect’s description is not being released at this time.
