The McHenry County Sheriff's Office is teaming up with Senior Services to present information to the community on current scams happening here in McHenry County. The presentation will be on Friday, May 20, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at Senior Services in Crystal Lake.
From 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, there will also be a shredding event at Senior Services. Shredding of personal and financial documents is important to help minimize the risks of identity theft.
This presentation series is offered quarterly and provides information on current scams occurring in McHenry County, common scams that arise in summer, and information on how to keep your residence a safe place to live. Tips will then be given on what to watch out for, especially on popular scams like the IRS and Grandparent scam, how to protect yourself, and what to do if you become a victim. After a short presentation, meet with detectives and deputies and speak with them in a roundtable setting, getting answers to your questions and concerns.
This presentation is designed for all McHenry County residents. Those who are caregivers to a senior or are a senior themselves are especially encouraged to participate because often seniors are the targeted victims.
