Assault Investigation Arrests

Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook announces the arrests of two suspects accused of causing serious injuries to two males during a fight outside a local bar.

Frankie McDonald (DOB: 1-12-1993) and Damon Wells (DOB: 8-24-1998) are charged with Assault and Battery by 2nd by Mob.

The charge stems from an incident that occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m. on May 16, 2016 on Greene Street.

When officers arrived at 2002 Greene Street they found two 20-year-old males outside with visible injuries.

It was evident that one victim suffered more serious injuries, including lacerations and bleeding to the head. EMS was called to the scene and took the victims to a local hospital. One victim remains there while the other was medically treated and released.

According to witnesses, the first victim who was severely injured was arguing inside Pavlov’s bar at 2000 Greene Street with at least two people prior to the physical assault.

The argument carried over to the outside as the victims walked away from the bar. That’s when witnesses say the suspects used a baseball bat to repeatedly hit the man. The second victim was injured while he tried to break up the fight. The suspects allegedly drove away from the scene in an SUV.

A witness was able to provide CPD officers with a description of the vehicle including a license plate number. Officers notified emergency dispatch operators about the SUV who then broadcasted the information over the police radio.

An officer on patrol in the area spotted the SUV shortly before 1:00 a.m. (May 17) at the intersection of Bluff and Bates Roads. The officer conducted a lawful traffic stop and detained the people inside. All were questioned by CPD Investigators. McDonald and Wells were arrested and charged in the case on May 17 at approximately 3:00 a.m.

Both men were transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. A judge set bond for both suspects at $50,000 at a hearing this morning.

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
