Crime alert for patrol areas west of downtown Houston

WHAT: Armed robberies of pedestrians

WHERE: Montrose area

WHEN: Tuesday night, May 17

A robbery team of a man and young woman carried out at least three stick-ups. Locations included the 1700 block of Hawthorne, the 2500 block of Park and the 1800 block of Cherryhurst.

The robberies start with a ruse: The woman, described as an African-American in her late teens or early 20s, wearing dark clothing, approaches a pedestrian and says she needs help because she has been abused by her boyfriend and robbed. During the conversation, an African-American man wearing dark trousers approaches with a shotgun and demands the pedestrian's belongings. The woman may have used a shotgun in one of the robberies, too.

Their getaway car was a yellow Chevrolet Camaro.

HPD and Precinct 1 are working on the cases. Please call 911 if you see suspicious behavior by individuals matching the descriptions.

Please use extra caution when walking in your neighborhoods.

Be safe,

Constable Rosen
