Advisory

Lomita Sheriff's To Crackdown on Speeders & Noise on Switchbacks in Rancho Palos Verdes

Deputies from Lomita Station are stepping up traffic enforcement on Palos Verdes Drive East, particularly the area known as “The Switchbacks,” between Crest Road and Palos Verdes Drive South in Rancho Palos Verdes.  This stretch of roadway has become increasingly popular with motorcyclists and sports car enthusiasts from all over the region, drawing complaints of speeding, unsafe passing, reckless driving, and excessive engine noise.  The noise generated by illegally-modified motorcycle exhaust systems is a major quality of life concern and infringes on the peace and tranquility of nearby residential neighborhoods.

In addressing these concerns, deputies will increase traffic enforcement in this area, particularly enforcing loud exhaust, speeding, and passing statutes.  Our deputies will take a “ZERO TOLERANCE” approach to violations of this nature.  Our goal is to protect the users of this roadway and to preserve peace in the community.  We also ask all motorists to be mindful of safety on this narrow stretch of road, which is used by bicyclists and pedestrians as well.

Lomita Sheriff’s Station provides law enforcement services to the cities of Lomita, Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates, and unincorporated communities in San Pedro and the Palos Verdes Peninsula.
