High Visibility OWI Task Force

Sun Prairie Police Department Media Release

From: Sergeant Jason Lefeber

Date: May 10th, 2016

Subject: High Visibility OWI Task Force

On Saturday May 14th, the Sun Prairie Police Department will once again join the Capital Area OWI Task Force in a High Visibility OWI Task Force deployment within our city. The Task Force includes the following agencies: DeForest PD, City of Madison PD, Town of Madison PD, Verona PD, Oregon PD, Stoughton PD, Maple Bluff PD, McFarland PD, Monona PD, Shorewood Hills PD, Cottage Grove PD, University of Wisconsin PD, and State Patrol. This will be Sun Prairie PD’s fourth year of participation in this Task Force. The deployment will start at 8:00pm.

This is part of a multi-jurisdictional agreement funded by a state grant set up by Lt. Dan Furseth of DeForest PD. This was done in an effort to not only address traffic laws focusing around OWI enforcement, but also to raise awareness of drunk driving in our neighboring communities.

The areas of focus will be Main St. (from County HWY N to Grand Ave), Grand Ave (from USH 151 to Windsor St.), and STH 19 (from CTH C to Bristol St.). These streets are major thoroughfares in our city and where most of our OWI related incidents occur.

Thank you to all the assisting agencies for helping our community with this event.
