Department statement regarding the arrest of a Non-Sworn Employee:

Detectives from the Special Victims Bureau conducted an investigation into allegations of sexual abuse to a minor.  Pursuant to this investigation, 44-year-old Michael Ward was arrested on Thursday, May 5, 2016.  Mr. Ward is an employee of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in a non-sworn capacity.  He was charged with Sexual Assault of a Minor, 220(a)(2) PC; Sodomy of a Minor, 286(b) PC; and Oral Copulation of a Minor, 288a(C)(1) PC. 

Mr. Ward is scheduled to be arraigned today, Monday May 9, 2016, in the Los Angeles County Superior Court.  

We find these allegations deeply troubling. These allegations were not as a result of contacts he made within the scope of his work with the Sheriff’s Department. Mr. Ward was relieved of duty on May 5, 2016 pending the outcome of the criminal investigation.
