Havasu Lake, CA - Major Injury Boating Accident

INCIDENT: Major Injury Boating Accident

LOCATION: Havasu Landing Resort, Havasu Lake. California

VICTIM(S): Brian Teeter, 49 years old from Lake Havasu City, AZ
Kim Elliott, 50 years old from Lake Havasu City, AZ


SUMMARY:
On Saturday, May 7, 2016, at approximately 4:00 p.m., Marine Enforcement Unit Deputies from the Colorado River Station witnessed a vessel explode at the Havasu Landing Resort. Deputies immediately rendered aid to the victims along with civilians and an off duty Police Officer who was also a medic. The Mohave County Sheriff's Marine Enforcement Unit also responded and extinguished the fire burning from the wreckage and aided in the rescue. The victims, Brian Teeter and Kim Elliott launched their watercraft from Body Beach on Lake Havasu and arrvied at the Havasu Landing Marina around 3:00 p.m.. As Teeter and Elliott were leaving, Elliott got onto the PWC first to hold it as Teeter boarded. Teeter attempted to start the PWC and there was a large explosion that originated from the engine compartment. After the explosion, Teeter and Elliott were sent air born and came to rest on "A" dock next to the now severly damaged PWC. Teeter suffered major injuries and was flown to Lake Havasu Regional Medical Center by Care Flight. Elliott suffered major injuries and was transported by water to Windsor State Park and then to Lake Havasu Regional Medical Center. The following investigation determined a fuel leak led to the explosion.
