LOCATION:        Central Avenue and Rosecrans Avenue, Compton

SUSPECT:         John Lopez, Male Adult

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Century Station deputies had received information earlier in the day of a vehicle that was recently involved in an attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon incident in their station area.  

As deputies were patrolling the area at Central Avenue and Rosecrans Avenue, Compton, they saw a black Mercedes Benz which matched the description of the described vehicle that was recently involved in the above incident.  When deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle at the location, the suspect failed to yield and drove away. 

Deputies initiated a vehicle pursuit, which ultimately entered the California State Route 91 Freeway eastbound from Central Avenue, Carson.  California Highway Patrol (CHP) were requested and took over the pursuit eastbound the California State route 91 Freeway in the City of Bellflower.

During the pursuit, the suspect’s vehicle became disabled and came to a stop at Green River Road, Corona. A brief standoff occurred, in which Anaheim Police Department SWAT members apprehended the suspect.

The suspect was medically cleared for booking, transported to and booked at Century Sheriff’s Station in Lynwood CA.

The suspect, John Lopez, Male Adult, was arrested for Felony Evading of a Peace Officer and currently being held in lieu of $75,000 bail.

The investigation is ongoing regarding his involvement of the attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon incident.
