Two suspects arrested for auto theft

On May, 5 2016 at approximately 8:27 am, Los Altos Police responded to Sioux Lane on the report that two vehicles had been stolen from the same residence overnight. The vehicles, described as a Land Rover and a Cadillac Escalade, were discovered missing from the front driveway of the residence when the owners went outside in the morning.

Officers also located a Lexus, which had been reported stolen to Santa Clara Police on May 1, nearby the Sioux Lane residence.  Los Altos Officers immediately relayed the details of the investigation to the Santa Clara County Regional Auto Theft Task Force. A member of the task force located the two stolen vehicles, occupied by the suspects pictured, in east San Jose.

Task force members coordinated the arrest of the two suspects who were identified as San Jose residents, 20-year-old Cruz Cipriano Vargas and 20-year-old Aaron Guzman. Both suspects were booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on charges of auto theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, and conspiracy to commit a felony.

The Los Altos Police Department is grateful for the assistance provided by the Santa Clara County Regional Auto Theft Task Force. This partnership and the coordination between multiple law enforcement agencies resulted in the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of three stolen vehicles.

Residents are reminded to report suspicious activity to the Los Altos Police Department at (650) 947-2770. For emergency calls, or suspected in-progress crimes, please dial 9-1-1.
