ECPD Explorers win awards and statewide recognition in several categories
El Cerrito Police Department's Explorer Post competed in the Annual State Capital Explorer Challenge held at the California Highway Patrol Academy in Sacramento. The event was a weekend long competition beginning April 29th and concluding this past Sunday, May 1st.
The Explorer Post competed in 15 scenarios over the three day period, against 43 other explorer programs from around California. The ECPD Explorers earned trophies and awards in 5 scenario competitions:
• 2nd Place – Court Testimony
• 2nd Place – Law Enforcement/Investigation: Drunk in Public
• 3rd Place – Law Enforcement/Investigation: Domestic Violence
• 4th Place – Law Enforcement/Investigation: Suspicious Person
• 5th Place – Physical Fitness: Obstacle Course
This success was the result of a lot of hard work by the Explorers and numerous department members who helped train and prepare them for the competition and accompanied them to the competition.
ECPD Explorers volunteer their time by attending required monthly meetings, attending the Explorer Academy during the Summer, and assisting staff around the department. As the state wide competition approaches, the group focuses on training and preparation for the grueling scenario based competition. Officers within ECPD also donate their time consisting of hundreds of hours of work with the Explorer Post. Congratulations to everyone involved, and especially the Explorers whose hard work paid dividends.
