A 71-year-old man was allegedly punched in the face on Monday afternoon at a Valencia park after he asked a group of teens to "stop smoking" near young children at the park.

Santa Clarita Sheriff's Station deputies responded to the incident on the 23700 block of Via Gavola at approximately 2:15 p.m.

The victim said that the suspects taunted him after he asked them to stop smoking and then without any warning, one of the boys in the group punched him in the face. After he was assaulted, the suspect fled the scene.

Deputies immediately conducted a follow-up investigation. The suspect was identified, located, and taken into custody without incident. The suspect, Tanner Smith, age 18, faces charges of Battery and Elder Abuse.
