Narrative:
The Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau is investigating an inmate death that occurred at the Ventura County Courthouse in Ventura.
During the evening hours of April 20, 2016, Inmate Timothy Kicker was arrested for Driving While Under the Influence, a violation of 23152(a) of the vehicle code. After a pre-booking medical clearance, Mr. Kicker was booked into the Pre-Trial Detention facility.
While making his first court appearance on the matter at the Ventura County Courthouse on April 22, 2016, at approximately 9:00 a.m., Inmate Timothy Kicker suffered a medical emergency.
Deputies and jail medical staff responded immediately and rendered aid. Ventura City Fire personnel and AMR paramedics were also summoned to provide more advanced life saving efforts. Mr. Kicker was pronounced dead at 9:46 a.m., by Ventura City Fire staff.
An autopsy was performed by the Medical Examiner and there was no indication of violence or suspicious circumstances and the cause of death appeared to be from a pre-existing medical condition. The cause of death is under investigation by the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau. As a matter of policy and procedure, all inmate deaths are investigated by the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau. Kicker’s next of kin was located and notified.
