Drivers in Chula Vista still using the phone while driving, 86 citations issued in latest operation!

Chula Vista - Officers from the Chula Vista Police Department conducted a Distracted Driver Operation on Thursday April 28th, 2016 between the hours of 4 PM and 9 PM within the City of Chula Vista.

Distracted driver operations concentrate on drivers talking on their cell phones or texting while operating a motor vehicle.

During this operation, traffic stops were conducted on 98 vehicles. 43 drivers were cited for utilizing their cell phone while driving and 43 drivers were cited for texting. 5 drivers were cited for either having a suspended driver’s license or no license at all. 5 other drivers received citations for various vehicle code violations including, window tint, railroad crossing violation and blocking an intersection.

This was the sixth and final operation scheduled in April focused on Distracted Driving and it was considered a successful operation. During the six operations, 584 traffic stops were conducted that resulted in 277 drivers for using their phones and 203 drivers were cited for texting. The Chula Vista Police Department is continuing its efforts to keep our community safe by encouraging drivers to follow the rules of the road.
