Crime Alert and Community Update Bulletin

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

On Saturday, 04-23-16 at 11:14 a.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of Hillside Boulevard and Gambetta Street on a report of a man standing on the corner sidewalk who was screaming, pulling down his pants and accosting passersby. Officers found the subject and asked him if he had anything illegal on him, and the subject said he had a needle in his pants pocket. The officers conducted miscellaneous tests and determined the subject was under the influence of a controlled substance. The subject, a 44-year old San Francisco resident, was arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and for being in possession of a controlled substance.

On Sunday, 04-24-16 at 2:05 p.m., officers were dispatched to the Planet Fitness parking lot on a report of a hit and run collision. The victim said he was rear ended by a white Mercedes while at San Pedro Road and Allemany Street. The victim said he followed the suspect vehicle into the parking lot and saw the driver looking at the front of his vehicle. The victim then said to the driver who rear ended him, “Why didn’t you stop? I have my kids in the car.” The victim said the driver cursed at him and tried to get back into his vehicle. The victim, a 45-year old Daly City resident, said he feared the driver was going for a weapon or was going to attempt to flee again, so he pushed him towards his vehicle to prevent the driver from leaving. The victim said the suspect then punched him in the forehead, grabbed him by the neck and broke his necklace. The victim said he tried to pull the suspect to the ground but another subject pulled him off the suspect, and the suspect climbed back into his vehicle and got onto northbound Highway 280. The victim’s daughter, who suffered from back pain from being rear ended, took a photo of the subject and his vehicle. A few hours later, officers located the subject, a 20-year old Daly City resident, and placed him under arrest for felony hit and run.

On Sunday, 04-24-16 at 9:43 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 400 block of 91st Street on the report of an interrupted residential burglary. A suspect broke down the door of the residence and fled into the adjacent neighbor when he was confronted by the resident. A passerby flagged down an officer and told him he saw a subject run into a housing construction site. Officers found the male hiding and detained him. The subject, a 33-year old Daly City resident, gave the officers his brother’s name when they asked for his name. While conducting a pat search of the suspect, the officer found a glass pipe with a crystalline residue believed to be methamphetamine in his possession. The officer also found the subject’s identification card which was not the same name as the subject provided. The subject had a warrant for possession of drug paraphernalia. The subject was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia, giving false identification and for the outstanding warrant. This subject was determined not to be the one who broke the front door.

The subjects pulled the victim to the ground, and the victim yelled for help. One of the subjects then reached into the victim’s front pants pocket and took the victim’s cell phone. Scams/Other

“Pigeon Drop”

On Monday, 04-18-16 at 2:00 p.m., a 70-year old Daly City resident reported she was in the parking lot of the Ross Store on Gellert Boulevard when she was approached by two subjects, one male and one female. The male showed the victim a black leather wallet which appeared to contain a large sum of money and asked the victim if the wallet was hers. The victim said it wasn’t hers, and the subject told her he works for the Wells Fargo at Serramonte Center, and they could take the money there to return it. The victim drove both subjects to the Wells Fargo Bank and parked away from the bank, per the order of the male suspect. The male supposedly went to the bank and returned, saying the money they found was “in fact good”; however they would need money from her in order to put it into a CD account before splitting up the $80,000.00 between the three of them. The victim drove the suspects to one bank to withdraw $1,000.00 and then another bank to withdraw $4,000.00. Neither suspect went into the bank with the victim. The victim then gave the suspects the $5,000.00 cash and then returned to Wells Fargo Bank. The male suspect had the victim park away from the bank and said he was going to take her money and the money they found and deposit it into a CD account and they could then split the money between the three of them. The female said she needed to use the restroom and went into Target. Both suspects never returned to the vehicle. The victim waited for an hour for the suspects to return. The male suspect was described as a black male in his 50’s, approximately 6’ tall, slender build, short hair, gray suit with a Wells Fargo Bank badge around his neck, and said his name was “Oliver Pennington”. The female suspect was described as a Hispanic female in her 50’s, approximately 5’4”, wearing all black clothing, sunglasses and a gray sun hat with a large brim. She provided a name of “Marylin Anderson”.

Nextdoor.com

This is a free private social network for you, your neighbors and your community which allows you to talk to your neighbors on line. This, in turn, People use Nextdoor for many reasons: to quickly get the word out about crimes in the area, organize a Neighborhood Watch Group, track down a trustworthy babysitter, find referrals for businesses, looking for lost pets, finding new homes for unwanted items (furniture, bicycles, etc.), and many other reasons. It is very easy to sign up, and I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t actually live there. There is a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your email. Give it a try! www.nextdoor.com
