Narrative:
Learn Mental Health First Aid! It is a two part, 8 hour certified training to help someone developing a mental health problem or at risk of suicide or harm. This innovative program offers concrete tools and answers key questions like “What can I do if someone is in crisis?” “How do I approach someone in distress?” “What do I say?” “How can I help?” “Where can someone find help?”
You will learn:
• About common mental health and substance use disorders
• Warning signs and symptoms of mental health problems
• Potential risk factors
• Local resources and supports
• A five step action plan:
• Assess for risk of suicide or harm
• Listen Non-judgmentally
• Give reassurance and information
• Encourage appropriate professional help
• Encourage self-help and other support strategies
