Distracted Driver Operation yields 75 Motorists cited in Chula Vista

Chula Vista - Officers from the Chula Vista Police Department conducted a Distracted Driver Operation on Friday April 22nd, 2016 between the hours of 4 PM and 9 PM within the City of Chula Vista.

Distracted driver operations concentrate on drivers talking on their cell phones or texting while operating a motor vehicle.

During this operation, traffic stops were conducted on 85 vehicles. 47 drivers were cited for utilizing their cell phone while driving and 28 drivers were cited for texting. 5 drivers were cited for either having a suspended driver’s license or no license at all. 3 vehicles were impounded during the operation for the driver having a suspended license or no license at all.

This was the fifth of six operations scheduled in April focused on Distracted Driving and it was considered a successful operation. The Chula Vista Police Department is continuing its efforts to keep our community safe by encouraging drivers to follow the rules of the road.

Funding for this operation was provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
