Crime Alert and Community Update Bulletin

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

On Friday, 04-15-16 at 12:36 a.m., Officer Angelo Hamilton conducted a pedestrian stop on a subject who jaywalked on the 6100 block of Mission Street. The subject refused to speak with the officer and the subject continued to walk away from the officer, ignoring his requests for the subject to stop walking. The officer recognized the subject, a 44-year old South San Francisco resident, who was on probation and asked him to take his hands from his shirt. The subject smelled of alcohol, and the officer attempted to detain him. The subject then pulled away from the officer and threatened him. The subject was later arrested for resisting, delaying, and obstructing an officer with the threat of violence and for committing a felony while on bail.

On Friday, 04-15-16 at 4:43 p.m., a 13-year old Daly City resident believed she was followed by two subjects in a blue Honda Civic while she was walking from Fernando Rivera School to the after school program at the Giammona Pool. The victim said she was walking and noticed the vehicle occupied by two subjects parked across the street. When she walked past the vehicle, she said the vehicle made a U-turn and began to follow her. The victim was unable to tell if the subjects in the vehicle were male or female.

On Saturday, 04-16-16 at 12:14 a.m., Sergeant Keith Mattos observed an abandoned vehicle blocking the entry driveway to the DMV on Sullivan Avenue. The hazard lights were not activated, and the windows were rolled down. Sergeant Mattos then observed a male wearing a tan hoodie with the hood pulled over his head in the parking lot of the In-N-Out parking lot across the street. The subject was pacing back and forth and appeared to be talking on the phone while continuously looking over his shoulder. Due to recent burglaries in this area, Sergeant Mattos found this behavior suspicious. Sergeant Mattos then saw another subject walking thru the parking lot who didn’t appear to be exiting out of the businesses in the lot. Both subjects continued to look over their shoulders. The first subject walked back to the abandoned vehicle by the DMV and was startled when Sergeant Mattos stopped him. The subject said his girlfriend was in the restaurant, and that it was a rental vehicle. After obtaining consent to search the vehicle, Sergeant Mattos and cover officers located a Smith & Wesson semi-automatic firearm on the passenger floorboard under the passenger seat and also a mask that covers the lower portion of a face. The subject, a 21-year old San Francisco resident, was arrested for possessing a loaded firearm in a vehicle.

On Saturday, 04-16-16 at 7:20 a.m., subsequent to a traffic stop on a vehicle at the intersection of John Daly Boulevard and Dorchester Avenue, Officer Mario Busalacchi arrested the driver, a 25-year old Daly City resident, for being a felon in possession of a firearm, having a concealed firearm in a vehicle, carrying a loaded firearm in a public place, probation violation and for possession of marijuana.

On Sunday, 04-17-16 at 8:44 p.m., officers were dispatched to the unit block of Miriam Street on a report of subjects being loud and drinking in front of the residence. Officer Rodney Chittenden arrived and could hear music and shouting and made contact with approximately 20 people who were drinking beer and eating in front of the residence. The officer addressed the group as a whole and asked them to turn down the music and bring the beer into the house. One subject said he would keep the noise down. When cover officers arrived, several subjects began to resist the officers’ requests, and some of the subjects became physical towards the officers. Four subjects, a female and three males ranging from 21 to 27 years old, Daly City and San Francisco residents, were arrested for charges including battery on an officer, resisting arrest, possession of cocaine, false information, and for warrants.

Robberies

There was one robbery during the past week.

On Sunday, 04-17-16 at approximately 8:45 p.m., a 25-year old Daly City resident was the victim of an armed robbery and criminal threats by an unknown suspect who pressed a silver semi-automatic handgun to his neck and demanded property from him while he sat in the driver’s seat. This occurred on the 400 block of Santa Barbara Avenue. The passenger, a 28-year old San Bruno resident, also was the victim of an armed robbery and criminal threats by the other suspect. The loss was a backpack, two wallets and two iPhones. The first suspect is described as a possible light skinned black or Pacific Islander male, early 20’s, approximately 6’0 tall, 170 lbs., wearing a dark blue “hoodie”, dark blue or black beanie and had a thin mustache. The second suspect was described as a light skinned black male, early 20’s, approximately 6’0 tall, 160 lbs., wearing a black “hoodie” pulled over his head, a dark blue or black bandana over his face and faded blue or silver colored jeans. The subjects entered the garage and broke into a vehicle by smashing the right front and rear passenger window and took camera equipment and a laptop. The subjects were caught on video surveillance, and this case is under investigation.

Nextdoor.com

This is a free private social network for you, your neighbors and your community which allows you to talk to your neighbors on line. This, in turn, People use Nextdoor for many reasons: to quickly get the word out about crimes in the area, organize a Neighborhood Watch Group, track down a trustworthy babysitter, find referrals for businesses, looking for lost pets, finding new homes for unwanted items (furniture, bicycles, etc.), and many other reasons. It is very easy to sign up, and I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t actually live there. There is a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your email. Give it a try! www.nextdoor.com
